Learn simple wood carving techniques to make decorative butter molds and how to make a variety of butters from scratch. Because why not have fancy butter? Over three days, we will draw inspiration from historic butter mold designs to create at least two butter molds while learning to add simple and elegant designs using chip carving knives and gouges. This unique class bridges both woodworking and culinary creativity as we’ll also craft a variety of butters including salted, unsalted, cultured, and compounded. Class will be structured to encourage a relaxed pace that builds in time to connect with fellow students while enjoying treats that are improved through the generous application of butter. Students will leave with multiple butter molds and a variety of butters. The materials fee includes butter making supplies; a nominal additional cost (~$5) depending on the size of the butter mold students select may apply. Students ages 14+ may register for this course independently; no carving experience is necessary. Gluten sensitivity can be accommodated, unfortunately lactose sensitivity can not be accommodated for this course.
