Clay Tablets to Ebooks: A History of Libraries
The human urge to gather, store, and study what Carl Sagan called our "communal memory" has a long history. From the early days of civilization through modern times, libraries have been the repositories for this memory. From clay tablets to paper books and beyond, as the formats for recording our stories have changed, so have libraries adapted to meet the needs of their users. This class will trace library history from Assyrian King Ashurbanipal in the 7th century BCE to our own communities in the 21st century.
