20027 The Amazing Slime Molds! (LATE START DATE)
They creep. They crawl. They have no brain but can solve mazes and drive robots—“slimebots.” Learn about the wonderful world of myxomycetes, aka slime molds. These amazing organisms are neither fungi nor animals—they are actually giant amoebas. In addition to being intelligent they can be quite beautiful! Slime molds live in forests but are usually overlooked. Become aware of them and be astounded. The class will be followed by a walk in the woods in search of Myxomycetes. Meet at the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden parking lot ($1/hour, $4 for the day). Parking fees are the responsibility of the attendees.
