30883 Turtles All The Way Down: The Theory and Practice of Interpretation

We will discuss important figures in the development of hermeneutics (theory of interpretation) and the key role interpretation plays in the humanities. Topics will include scriptural exegesis, language and metaphor, the decline of rhetoric, the truth and impact of historical writings, and the opening to new worlds in fiction and art. Teaching methods will be presentation and class discussion.
