30894 Dvorak in America

During 1892–1895, the Czech composer Antonín Dvorák (1841–1904) was the first great composer of art music to live an extended period of time in the United States. Although he was brought here primarily to teach European musical styles to American students, he incorporated American musical styles in compositions such as the New World Symphony, the Humoresque for piano solo, and the magnificent American String Quartet. Besides his famous association with Spillville, Iowa, he also visited the Twin Cities in 1893 and found musical inspiration from a visit to Minnehaha Falls.
