30903 Housing for Humans: Social Relations and Spatial Forms from the 1880s to the 1930s

This class will examine social housing from company towns to city enclaves during a time of intense industrialization, migration, and urbanization and before the era of Cold War ideologies. We will consider the role of designers, critics, planners and patrons, focusing particularly on projects and experiments in Weimar Germany, New York and Vienna.
