10734 Debussy's Images for Piano

Of all the alternatives to traditional harmonic and melodic styles cultivated by 20th-century composers, the only one universally accepted by musical audiences today is the appealing style of French Impressionism associated with Claude Debussy (1862–1918), who developed innovative harmonic and orchestral techniques to create ravishingly beautiful musical atmospheres and evocations. Some of Debussy’s greatest piano pieces are found in his two sets of Images (published in 1905 and 1908), which include unforgettable depictions of natural phenomena enhanced with dazzling pianistic virtuosity.
