10746 Bookend: For the People
April Dakota hopes to open a wellness center on Minneapolis's Franklin Avenue to serve the Indigenous community. Turned down for a grant, she partners with Esme, a non-Indigenous woman who uses April's ideas for her own substantial gain. But the Franklin Avenue Task Force pulls together to defend their treasured community. Drawing on Minneapolis's rich Dakota and Ojibwe heritage, this new comedy examines the myriad facets of contemporary Native life. Discuss the play in advance of seeing the production and again afterwards. For the People runs October 7–November 12 at the Guthrie Theater.
