30943 Human History: An Overview
The course offers a brief overview of the human experience in six distinct periods, from our first appearance in Africa to the present time. We'll focus on factors that caused the shift from one period to the next, the heritage of each era that affects us today, and the acceleration of the rate of change over the course of our existence. Each era contributed an unique mode of understanding or kind of truth. Five of these views of reality now co-exist, and to some extent contradict each other. We will end with a look at the environmental crisis that threatens the future of our species.
