After an introduction to the history of Greek tragedy and its performance in antiquity as well as current revivals, class discussion will focus on the most significant plays of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides.
Recommended: Complete Greek Tragedies (University of Chicago Press): Aeschylus II, Sophocles I, and Euripides I and V, or any modern translations of "The Oresteia trilogy ", Oedipus Rex, Antigone, Medea, and the Bacchae.
