Amid the horrors of war, whether close to home or witnessed from afar, creative artists—especially musicians—have found ways to give voice to humanity’s range of responses. In this class we’ll learn about the contexts, composers, and performers of the music that has been written during times of war: music that portrays anguish, rage, mourning, bewilderment, encouragement, propaganda, protest, and celebration. No musical expertise is required to enjoy this class.
