Gordon Parks's creative genius was his weapon of choice against the racism and poverty he was born into. His memoir, A Choice of Weapons, details his journey from struggle to success, becoming a groundbreaking American photographer, musician, poet, novelist, journalist, activist, and film director. We will read and discuss his memoir, view the documentary on Parks entitled Half-Past Autumn (2000) by local filmmaker Craig Rice, and attend the special exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Art “American Gothic: Gordon Parks and Ella Watson” (on June 20).
Meet at Mia on Thursday, June 20
