This course will follow current macroeconomic issues related to the new policy direction of the Biden administration and how it builds upon the experiences from the pandemic and past recessions. We’ll focus on economic growth over time, the Federal deficit and debt (including modern monetary theory), international trade, and economic inequality. Economists introduced will include Paul Krugman, Stephanie Kelton, and Thomas Piketty. In addition, we’ll explore the new and important field of Behavioral Economics with economists Richard Thaler and Daniel Ariely, and psychologist Daniel Kahneman.
