DELIVERING EFFECTIVE FEEDBACK
Part 2 of a 3 part series. Can be taken independently
Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to deepen and extend the knowledge based on the principles of effective feedback. Positive coaching will be defined and the effect on athletes' participation, persistence, effort, performance, and sport experience will be explained. In addition, data and research supporting the purpose and efficacy of implementing positive coaching techniques and delivering feedback effectively will be provided.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants taking the Delivering Effective Feedback continuing education course through the Pacific Lutheran University Department of Kinesiology will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of when to deliver feedback and how much feedback to provide in order to enhance athletes' performance.
- Demonstrate knowledge of how to correct performers' technical and tactical errors effectively.
- Demonstrate knowledge of how to deliver feedback differently based on the skill and experience level of the athlete/performer.
- Demonstrate an understanding of when coach-delivered (augmented) feedback is useful and when it can disrupt performance.

CULTIVATING A MOTIVATIONAL CLIMATE
Part 3 of a 3 part series. Can be taken individually.
Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to provide evidence-based tools and strategies for coaches that will help them create a productive performance environment for their athletes. A "mastery" motivational climate emphasizes the importance of effort and learning through mistakes. Principles of a mastery motivational climate will be provided and easy-to-implement strategies for developing this time of environment will be outlined. When athletes compete in this type of team climate, they are more likely to feel confident, give their best effort, persist in the face of adversity, challenge themselves, and develop high self-esteem.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants taking the Creating a Mastery Motivational Climate continuing education course through Pacific Lutheran University's Department of Kinesiology will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the differences between a mastery motivational climate and an outcome-focused climate.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the positive effects of a mastery motivational climate on youth-high school athletes.
- Demonstrate an ability to apply the "TARGET" principle in order to create a mastery motivational climate.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and an ability to implement a mistake routine with athletes and teams to reinforce a mastery motivational climate.

LEADING DYNAMIC PRACTICES
Part 1 of a 3 part series. Can be taken individually or as part of the Effective Coaching Certificate series.
Course Description:
The purpose of this course is to provide evidence-based tools and strategies for coaches that will help them create a productive performance environment for their athletes during practice and training sessions. Research-supported principles for developing and leading practices and drills effectively will be provided and easy-to-implement strategies for developing mentally and physically challenging practices will be outlined.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants taking the Leading Dynamic Practices continuing education course through Pacific Lutheran University's Department of Kinesiology will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of how to use transitions to effectively maximize practice time.
- Demonstrate an understanding of when and how to breakdown skills effectively in practice.
- Demonstrate knowledge about how long and how often to practice youth sport - high school athletes.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to create fun, engaging practices using the GAMES approach.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how to get athletes to mentally engage in practices consistently.
