This 2-day workshop empowers nurse practitioners and healthcare professionals with practical suturing and biopsy techniques.  On day one, gain hands-on experience with simple interrupted, subcutaneous, and advanced mattress sutures, honing your ability to close wounds effectively while minimizing tension and scarring. On day two, delve into the world of biopsies, exploring shave, punch, scissor, and excisional techniques, and learn how to accurately assess and manage a range of conditions. Interactive case studies and pathology insights solidify your understanding, boosting your clinical confidence and enhancing your ability to deliver exceptional care. Whether you choose the full workshop or focus on individual days, this comprehensive training equips you with the knowledge and skills to excel in your chosen field. A generous amount of hands-on practice time will be supervised by experienced nurse practitioners using various non-animal models.

Friday: Mastering the Art of Suturing (Day 1):

  • Fundamentals of Wound Management: Classification, assessment, cleaning, irrigation, and closure techniques.
  • Basics of Suturing: Needle types, suture materials, instrument handling, basic knots.
  • Simple Interrupted Sutures: Demonstration, hands-on practice on models.
  • Subcutaneous Sutures: Technique, indications, hands-on practice.
  • Advanced Suturing Techniques:
    • Horizontal Mattress Sutures: For tension relief and deeper closure.
    • Vertical Mattress Sutures: For improved eversion and skin approximation.
    • Half-Buried Horizontal Mattress Sutures: For specific wound complications.
  • Wound Tension Management: Strategies for optimal closure based on wound characteristics.
  • Dog-ear managements

Saturday: Biopsy Techniques for Accurate Diagnosis (Day 2):

  • Principles of Biopsy: Indications, contraindications, types of biopsies, and potential complications.
  • Basics of local anesthesia for biopsies with a focus on infiltration techniques.
  • Shave Biopsy: Technique, instrumentation, specimen handling, and common applications.
  • Punch Biopsy: Indications, technique variations, specimen handling, and common applications.
  • Scissor Biopsy: Technique, indications, hemostasis considerations, and specimen handling.
  • Excisional Biopsy: Technique variations, skin closure options, specimen handling, and common applications.
