Medical Interpretation Training (Spanish)

    Learning Outcomes: Skills and Abilities

    Successful participants will:

    • learn medical terminology in Spanish

    • learn Spanish common phrases to be used in the context of discussing medical  issues with healthcare professionals

    • be prepared to take the Washington State certified medical interpreter test in order to pursue a DSHS interpreter credential.

    Learning Outcome: Knowledge

    Successful Participants will have an initial understanding and awareness of:

    • cultural issues in medicine in the context of Latinx cultures (included in Cultural and Linguistic Appropriate Service CLAS)

    • Washington State requirements for certificate upkeep

    • Interpreter standards of practice

    • healthcare interpreter ethical standards

    Training will last 6 weeks and be completely online. Participant must commit to the entire process, be 18 or older, and be fluent in English and Spanish (a speaking/writing test will be administered). A new cohort will begin every few months. Email ce@plu.edu with any questions.
