Learn the basics of at-home mushroom cultivation from basic lab work techniques to fruiting conditions and harvesting. Course will include a combination of demonstrations, lecture and workshops for hands-on experience. Over three weeks, learn lab work and sterilization techniques, pasteurization methods and substrate making, and fruiting conditions including best practices for harvesting your mushrooms.
Part 1: Sterilization: Set up a sterile environment for collecting spores and put them in a growing medium. Learn to sterilize grain for inoculation.
Part 2: Pasteurization: Using sawdust or straw, learn hot water pasteurization techniques to build your grow kit.
Part 3: Fruiting and Harvesting: How to care for your grow kit to maximize harvest and best techniques for harvesting your mushrooms!
By the end of this course, students should have a basic understanding of mushroom cultivation and how to successfully grow mushrooms on their own at home.
