The art of belly dance is rooted in rich folk tradition. In this 4-week class, you’ll learn fundamental belly dance technique along with the distinctive folkloric movements, rhythms, and stylization of the vibrant style known as Saidi. Whether you’re brand new or have experience in the art, this class offers layered instruction so everyone can grow at their own pace in a supportive, welcoming environment.
Wear comfortable clothes for exercise. Your instructor will provide hip scarves to borrow during class.

Students enrolled in our Filmmaking Class will receive an exciting introduction to the craft of storytelling through film. Create short promotions and marketing for your business or organization, develop a community-based documentary, or produce your own personal project. Each student will have the opportunity to write, direct, shoot and edit their own short project to be screened at the conclusion of the class. Open to students 16 years of age and older.
Class is in-person on the Port Angeles Campus. All film and editing equipment is provided.

Jazz Ensemble Audition
Sign up for the Jazz Ensemble Audition. The auditions are $0 cost and will be held on the Port Angeles Campus. Once auditions are over we will notify and complete registration for approved students. Contact Marge Rosen at mrosen@pencol.edu for more details about the audition.
Jazz Ensemble Course
Students must have prior experience playing in a jazz ensemble at the high school level or better. Instructor permission required. New students must sign for the Jazz Audition.

The 100% Totally Improvised Musical! This fall, join the silliness when IMPROV meets a LIVE BAND!
Whether acting or technical theater is your passion, REGISTER for drama at Peninsula College and become a part of the team that produces the 100% TOTALLY IMPROVISED MUSICAL! Students enrolled in this course study the history of theater along with the stagecraft of how to produce live theater from the standpoint of the actor, designer, and playwright.
Students are invited to audition for the Musical and attend. Rehearsal times are generally 5 - 7pm, twice a week. Specific days will be finalized once the show is cast.
Student Learning Objectives:
- Apply Aristotle’s six traditional parts of drama: plot, character, theme, diction, music, and spectacle in relation to excerpts from several significant plays/films.
- List and explain traits that theatre shares with other kinds of performance.
- Describe the basic process of script development and key elements of plot structure.
- Apply basic performance skills, with a focus on “honesty” in character development and action.
- Explain how design and technical production areas enhance and support a performance.
- List and explain traits of theatre itself including configurations and stage shapes.
- Practice costume and set design.
- Perform a monologue and/or duet.
- Write and/or perform a two person scene.
No class on Nov 11 or Nov 27 holidays.
Please note, this is a co-enrolled class. Community Education students in co-enrolled classes will be expected to attend and participate in classes regularly, but examinations and assignments are not required and are at the instructor's discretion. Classes may be rigorous and will have students from multiple sections. You will not receive a grade or earn college credit as a Community Education student. This class explores various guitar techniques through the medium of ensemble playing. Students grow their guitar and musicianship skills while playing music together from a variety of genres (everything from Baroque to The Beatles!)
Prerequisites: Students must be able to read music and have prior guitar experience. If you are unsure if this course is for you, feel free to reach out to the instructor at jbrown@pencol.edu.
Required: Students must have a classical or acoustic guitar.

Designed for musicians who have never improvised, are just beginning, or want to make their improvisation more engaging. Improvisation - spontaneous composition - is easy when you tap into knowledge and abilities we all naturally possess.
This class includes real-time interaction between instructor and classmates.
- Ear Training - Learning to recognize and understand what we hear.
- Rhythm - Command of pulse, subdivision, duration, and accents.
- Practice improv drills and exercises in a group performance setting.
- Apply improv skills to jazz standards.
Recommended homework and practice schedule will vary from week to week. Instructor will provide weekly homework assignments and give feedback on student work throughout the course.
Students requirements: Regular attendance and daily exercise is critical for maximizing learning and integration of skills into a student's performances.
