By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Identify common intrusive and extrusive igneous rocks and explain their significance on the basis of texture and grain size.
- Identify and describe the various types of volcanoes and discuss the volcanic hazards and risks associated with each type.
- Explain the theory of plate tectonics and identify the three types of plate boundaries and the geological features that characterize each.
- Briefly discuss some of the most significant volcanic eruptions that have had an impact on the course of human history and the historical consequences of these eruptions.
