Beach Geology   

Student Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Identify common igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks found along the Pacific Coast of the Olympic Peninsula.
  2. Explain the theory of plate tectonics and identify the three types of plate boundaries and the geological features that characterize each.
  3. Understand and explain the geological processes and history that formed the Pacific coastal region of the Olympic Peninsula.
  4. Understand and explain the geology, including the plate tectonic setting and seismic risks, of some of your favorite Pacific Coast beaches.

Students taking this class for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) must attend 80% of classes. Email communityed@pencol.edu for your CEU Verification Letter at the completion of class.
