The Hollow Crown: Leadership, Power, and Hard Choices in Shakespeare's History Plays

The BBC/PBS series The Hollow Crown (2012) adapted four sequential Shakespeare English History plays in mini-series style. We’ll watch the series and (ideally) read the Shakespeare plays (Richard II, two parts of Henry IV, and Henry V). We’ll ponder Shakespeare’s nuanced and rueful look at leadership and the price to be paid for different leadership styles. The opulent series stars Jeremy Irons, Julie Walters, Tom Hiddleston, Judy Dench, and an A-List of British actors. Please watch the first episode before the first class, the second before the second, etc.
