Jane Austen's Men

The central consciousness of all of Austen's novels is a woman, and the reader's perception of the fictional world Austen creates is inevitably guided by that consciousness. These talks will attempt to sidestep the influence of this powerful figure, and to explore from a different angle the variety of men that Austen has created--fathers and sons, brothers, cousins, lovers, clergymen, villains, servants. Consideration will be given to filmed adaptations of the novels as well as to the written texts.
