Etowah Indian Mounds Home to several thousand Native Americans from 1000 A.D. to 1550 A.D., this 54-acre site protects six earthen mounds, a plaza, village site, borrow pits and defensive ditch. Etowah Mounds is the most intact Mississippian Culture site in the Southeast. Lunch will be provided at the S’Wheat Market Deli Luxury coach transportation (with snacks and rest stops)

Completed in 1839, Georgia’s Old Governor’s Mansion is one of the finest examples of High Greek Revival architecture in the nation with its stately columns and regal facade. From 1839 to 1868, this mansion served as the residence for eight of Georgia’s chief executives and their families. In 2015, the Mansion was named an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, one of six in the state today. Andalusia served as the home of famed American author Flannery O’Connor from 1951-1964. During the 13 years she lived at Andalusia, she completed the bulk of her literary work, as the farm’s environment influenced the setting of many of her writings. Following her death in 1964, the farm remained in the family until 2003 when it was given to a private foundation for use as a museum.

June 6, 1944, was one of the most monumental days of the 20th century. After five years of war, and four years of German occupation of France, the Allies finally take the war to the European continent. D-Day was perhaps the most significant military undertaking, ever - the largest amphibious and airborne operation launched, heretofore. In this 5-session, 15-hour course we will focus on the American portion of that day. We will take an in-depth look at the US operations, beginning with the airborne landings by the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. Additionally, Utah and Omaha Beaches and the daring assault by the Rangers, scaling the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc are examined in detail. From the highest-ranking generals, to the youngest draftee private, we will meet the soldiers, sailors, and airmen who were the heroes of the day. A battlefield tour to Normandy will be conducted in September 2024 and is open to those who attended the course.
