  • Global Shakespeares II

  • What makes Shakespeare global? What transcendent elements of human experience does he explore? This class will examine international adaptations of Shakespeare to analyze how his works are reimagined across cultures and languages, revealing both commonalities and differences. For instance, what happens when Buddhism intersects with Shakespeare in the Tibetan adaptation of Hamlet, The Prince of the Himalayas? How is nature portrayed in this film compared to Western interpretations? Building on the previous lecture, this session will further explore critical frameworks for understanding Shakespeare's global influence.
