  • Using Newspapers for Family History Research

  • Newspapers are key to understanding the time and place in which an ancestor lived since they provide a contemporaneous record. Every major genealogical database contains newspaper information, and libraries provide access to current and historical newspapers online. Since 1690 (the first record of a newspaper published in the United States), news, human interest stories, obituaries, legal notices, advertisements, society columns, and other content have provided a diary of a community. This three-hour long class consists of one and a half hours of lecture, then a break, then one hour of computer exercises. Before class, please allow at least 12 hours to complete Advance Homework.

What role do pets have in our family systems? How do I cope with my loved companion animal's changing health? Does grief happen before an actual death? Would we be able to pass? American Civics 101 is a timely five-part discussion that provides a simple but comprehensive path to understanding what every person applying for U.
