  • Introduction to Military Records for Family Historians

  • This broad overview introduces family historians to the rich resources found in US military and related records, spanning from the Colonial period through the Vietnam War. While each era offers a deep well of material worthy of in-depth study, this class is designed as a starting point rather than an exhaustive examination of any single conflict. Participants will be assigned advance reading and homework to complete before the session. After the lecture, hands-on activities will help reinforce key concepts and research strategies. The class will also briefly address international military records to help you begin exploring global resources.

  • Caroline Miller and her Pulitzer Prize Winning Novel Lamb in His Bosom

  • In 1933, the novel Lamb in His Bosom captivated the country with a story about pioneer life in South Georgia. This class includes passages from the novel that reflect the dignity, beauty and poetry Miller recognized in the lives of early South Georgia settlers and portions of public addresses that Miller presented at the height of her career. Miller felt a compulsion to leave behind a written record of these obscure but intelligent and resilient people who were remarkable in their nobility. Come hear the inspiring story of what motivated this young inexperienced writer to produce a prize winning novel.
