Do you love watching Birds and Nature? Join us for a stunning look at dozens of Georgia's most common (and uncommon) birds through the eyes of a photographer and naturalist, who will provide important insights into the native plants that provide critical shelter, habitat and food sources. The course includes practical tips on bird identification and features a how-to demonstration of the National Audubon Society's online Native Plant database tools. Diversity of habitat brings diversity in birds, so including native edible and larval host plants in your garden will result in more birds and more enjoyment!

Dr. Hinton summarizes red wolf recovery efforts in the southeastern United States to illustrate how research can be used to resolve key threats to wolves and promote recovery throughout their historical range. Understanding and predicting how red wolves will respond to modern landscapes requires coordinated research to investigate needs of direct relevance to recovery efforts. Such research will reduce our uncertainties about wild red wolf populations, thereby improving our conservation and management of the species.

Populations of many bird species have declined in the last half century--some, dramatically. Scientists estimate that the number of birds that inhabit North America today is a mere 70% of what it was in 1970. That's a loss of over 3 billion birds in 50 years! Many of the declining species are among our more common birds, like the ones you might see in your backyard or in country fields. This class explores why these declines have occurred, what types of birds have been hardest hit, why these losses matter, and what we can do about it.
