Redistricting is the process of drawing electoral maps for Congress, state representatives, and even your county officials. A seemingly benign process, redistricting has become the battleground in the fight for fair representation across the country. Recent Supreme Court decisions have rewritten the rules for considering diversity in map drawing, paving the way for more partisan gerrymandering. This class will focus specifically on redistricting is performed in Georgia. We’ll learn the basics, then explore current issues with the process. We’ll discuss potential solutions. Time permitting, we may engage in a map-drawing exercise so that groups of students can try their hand at drawing fair maps.

George Cukor is known as a "woman's director," and many of his films feature strong performances by actresses. His films also offer meditations on the very definition of "woman." In this two-hour class, we will look at the 1964 musical My Fair Lady for the way Cukor explores (in collaboration with lyricist Alan Jay Lerner) the differences—and similarities—between the sexes. This topic is especially interesting in this script which features the creation of the "perfect woman" by a not-so-perfect man! Participants may wish to view the entire film prior to class, but relevant clips will be shown during class in order to serve as the basis for our discussion.

Over the centuries, and countries, how a manuscript was put together changed, allowing us a glimpse into how information disseminated across time and space. Renowned for his military campaigns during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, Napoleon also implemented significant legal and administrative reforms, including the Napoleonic Code, which influenced many legal systems worldwide.
