Park Street: A Mirror of Boston for Centuries

Park Street has overlooked Boston Common, the country’s oldest public park, for almost four centuries. This illustrated talk will show how Park Street changed to echo the Boston people and architecture of each era. The Granary, Almshouse, Workhouse, and Bridewell (jail) of the colonial period gave way to homes and Park Street Church in the 19th century. Residents of Park Street included leaders of Boston society and politics. A hotel, TV news studio, early women’s club, Union Club, small businesses, Catholic Information Center, and offices for Houghton Mifflin show the growth and diversity of Boston through the years.
