    Enjoy the “golden years” with a healthy and strong body. Meet with a certified personal trainer to discover ways to incorporate physical activity and fitness into your daily life. All sessions will be broken into two main components: education and activity. Topics will include functional fitness, cardio training, strength training, flexibility training, balance exercises and core work. Modifications will be provided for all activities. Copies of the workouts will be provided to all participants so exercises can be done at home. Please wear comfortable work out attire and tennis shoes.

    All participants must submit the Health Questionnaire and UNL Rec Center Waiver before beginning the workouts. The OLLI office will email electronic forms to fill out online and electronically sign prior to the first class.

    Join us for a summer stroll with outdoor educators from the Pioneers Park Nature Center. We will walk 1 to 2 miles around the Nature Center, looking, listening and learning. Dress for the elements; we will be outside exploring for the duration. Binoculars, cameras, walking sticks and layered clothing are all encouraged.

    The College World Series, “The Greatest Show on Dirt,” culminates the college baseball season. Let’s enjoy the opening game of the tournament together, in the luxury of the air-conditioned Eastmont Performing Arts Center. With a 25 ft plus projection screen to take in the game, your seats will be better than if you were at TD Ameritrade Park. Join us for an afternoon of watching baseball, enjoying a tailgate meal, and socializing with friends – sounds like a home run! Bring your friends, your family and neighbors, as this event is open to them as well. We’ll start with a tailgating party at 12 p.m. Lunch will be provided and will include cheeseburgers and chicken breast sandwiches, potato salad, coleslaw, cookies, water, and table settings. Everyone is also encouraged/welcome to bring a covered dish, a dessert, or appetizer to enhance the tailgating experience.

    Registration Deadline: Thu, Jun 5. Cancellations after this date will be non- refundable, unless cancelled by OLLI. Attendees will have access to parking stalls labeled as “Visitor Parking.” Overflow parking is available across the street to the east in the Hobby Lobby/Mardel parking lot. Open to the Public. Through demonstrations, we will better understand available mapping resources, data querying and visualization, and be empowered to make data-informed decisions in our communities.     In 1928, Sarah Joslyn donated over $3 million to fund an arts center for the citizens of Omaha. Over the years, multiple capital construction and renovation projects have improved the experience for visitors. The Joslyn Art Museum has recently reopened. Join us for a guided tour centered on the theme “The Joslyn’s Highlights,” which includes a wide-ranging look at the most well- known and beloved objects in the Museum. The itinerary is ideal for first-time visitors who want to understand just what it is that makes the Joslyn Art Museum so special. This is a different tour than OLLI offered in Term 3. After the tour, stay and enjoy the multiple galleries and the Museum Shop.

    This course is in Omaha and is co-sponsored by the UNO Alumni Association.
 

  • History and Archeology of the Historic Kennard House

    Learn about the history of Lincoln’s Kennard House, originally the home of Thomas P. Kennard, Nebraska’s first Secretary of State. The Kennard House is the oldest building still standing that was part of Lincoln’s original town plat and was restored as a memorial to Nebraska statehood in 1967. We will tour the home, discuss its construction and architectural history, and learn about archeological investigations of the property conducted by UNL’s Summer Field School in Archeology and the History Nebraska State Archeology Office in the 1990s.
    Entering Kennard House requires walking up several steps. The tour will also include the second floor of the house, accessible by a stairway. Parking is available on H St. and on 16th St., and around the Capitol building, where the limit is two hours.

    Join Founding Director Megan Elliott, along with faculty and students, at the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts as they prepare for their annual Spring Open Studios. We will get a sneak peek at some of the projects they will be presenting and will have an opportunity to speak with the creators. After the class, stay for an evening of exploration and experimentation, and tour the Open Studios from 5-7 p.m. Examples of projects may include augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), 3D printing, interactive video, projection mapping and immersive experiences.

    Open Studios begin at 5 p.m. Parking at Que Place Garage, 1111 Q St, or metered parking on the street.

    Enjoy the historical exhibits in the Larson Tractor Test and Power Museum located on UNL's East Campus. Any tractor sold in Nebraska must first be tested at the museum. It is the only tractor testing museum in the world and the only complete tractor test laboratory in the world. The museum was built in 1920 and is dedicated to preserving and documenting the history of Nebraska's test laws dating from 1919. Enjoy a tour of the museum and visit to the test lab.

    We will discuss major foreign policy issues facing the United States. The Foreign Policy Association has selected eight topics, and we will cover the final four in Term 4. The course is a continuation of Great Decisions from Term 3. Each topic will be covered through FPA’s 25-minute “Master Class” video lecture as well as written articles. You will be expected to read articles prior to watching the video each day of the class. Topics to be discussed in Term 4 include the future of NATO and European Security; AI and American National Security, India; between China, the West, and the Global South, and After Gaza; American Policy in the Middle East. Class members may purchase the “Great Decisions Briefing Book” online at www.fpa.org.
