Unwind your day with a mindful meditative approach to making art. Neurographica was developed as an art therapy practice to help individuals process emotions and reduce stress. This class will use this technique to ease stress while making a beautiful abstract work of art. Students begin with random, spontaneous lines and incorporate circles into their design, later rounding off intersections and adding color with a choice of media. Students of all artistic levels are welcome.

Weave a sweet little square to round basket (3"x 3" x 5" high) and embellish with a button, acorn or shell. You'll get to experience a number of skills - creating a traditional base, weaving plain weave start-stop rows, lashing on a rim, and tying on a decoration. You'll go home with a useful basket even if it is your first project.

Scent is the sense most strongly connected to memory, with the power to calm the nervous system, shift mood, and bring us back to ourselves in an instant. Plants, too, support our regulation and well-being in ways we often overlook. Join Ella to explore the foundations of horticultural therapy and deepen your connection to the natural world through scent, touch, and creative practice.

We’ll begin the class by awakening our senses through playful scent explorations, guessing herbs, passing around fresh plants to touch and smell, and noticing how each aroma makes us feel. Participants will learn how to harvest and dry lavender at home, following the process from the plant to the dried botanicals we’ll be working with.

Together, we’ll craft personalized aromatherapy jars filled with dried lavender and colorful flowers to take home or gift. Using leaves and small nature treasures, we’ll also create handmade rubbings on tags/cards for each jar, a simple, heartfelt “to and from” keepsake inspired by the world around us. No prior experience with aromatherapy or crafting is required. We’ll close by enjoying a special homemade treat.

Leave feeling grounded, refreshed, and carrying the scent of lavender with you long after the day ends.

Create a set of attractive and practical fabric bowl cozies in beautiful fall-inspired prints. Perfect for soup bowls, snack bowls, or decorative displays, these cozy holders add charm to any kitchen and make thoughtful handmade gifts. This four-week sewing machine class is suitable for all skill levels. Beginners are welcome and will learn how to use a sewing machine during the first class. All supplies included.

This workshop is designed to give participants a variety of skills to help them feel confident while sketching on location. We will learn how to capture and sketch a scene into our sketchbooks, work quickly in ink and watercolor, and enhance layouts with hand-lettering. Participants will observe demos and receive individual attention as we work on value, color, composition, vignettes, lettering, simplifying a scene, and keeping our watercolors fresh. We’ll focus on having fun while we sketch, recording as much as we can as we capture.

Please note: This class will take place outdoors in Bronxville, and subjects will likely be the Giving Garden, Village Hall, and the Bronxville Public Library.

Dive into the creative possibilities of collage using magazines, found papers, tissue paper, and Mod Podge. Create a portrait, landscape, or abstract composition while exploring color relationships, layering, texture, and visual design. Open to all experience levels.

Colored pencil painting combines the control of drawing with the richness of painting. You'll learn how to use a watercolor wash as an initial base layer and then use colored pencils along with a brush and solvent to blend colors, build layers, and create rich, textured artwork.  Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned artist, this class welcomes all skill levels. If you're not confident in your drawing skills, the instructor will provide a pre-drawn image to help you get started.

This course provides beginners with a comprehensive start to the world of digital photography through classroom lectures, demonstrations, and instructor-led photo shoots. See what your camera is capable of! Topics include camera operation, exposure controls, shutter, aperture, ISO, white balance, depth of field, composition, portraiture and landscape photography.

Discover a fun and creative approach to fluid acrylic art using the “smash balloon” technique. A partially inflated balloon is gently pressed into wet paint and lifted away to spread and blend the colors, creating beautiful petal-like shapes, organic textures, and one-of-a-kind abstract designs. Experiment with color combinations, layering, and movement as you create unique works of art inspired by flowers and nature.

Beginners, experienced or lapsed knitters are welcome.  Learn to knit from the first stitch, master new stitches like lace and cables, or receive help with a project. Beginner patterns will be available, such as fingerless gloves, cowls and a toy stuffed rabbit.  If you are beyond beginner, please bring your supplies and a pattern on which you will work and receive help in class.

Drawing Foundations and Beyond Build a strong foundation in drawing with this step-by-step class designed for all levels. Over the course of the class, you’ll:

• Master three essential measuring skills.
• Learn to draw simple still lifes and landscapes.
• Develop your understanding of light, shadow, and shading.

Each week focuses on clear, practical exercises to help you gain confidence and accuracy in your drawing. Students will work on completing both a still life and a landscape, and we will devote the last couple of classes to portrait drawing. Using a round foam disk with cords and beads, students will create a necklace or bracelet with this Japanese braiding technique. Kumihimo can take on a variety of different looks depending on the beads. Learn the technique, explore the variations, then let your imagination and creativity run wild! This class is for all levels. This class offers a gentle introduction to the tactile qualities of working with pastels on paper. Participants will become familiar with a variety of papers, pastel materials, and techniques for applying and adhering pastel to the surface, while observing the nuances and effects each combination creates. The aim is to develop an understanding of these materials and learn how to use them to create personal artworks. Our first session will focus on becoming acquainted with pastel as a medium through experimentation and play. Subsequent classes will explore more defined themes and outcomes, including observing color nuances, light, and shadow while drawing objects and still lifes, studying organic forms such as flowers and leaves, and creating abstractions inspired by chosen themes, such as responding to music. Sessions conclude with supportive group reflections that honor each participant’s process and discoveries. Open to all levels, including beginners, the series emphasizes individual exploration and the creative process.

First, we work with a broad edge marker and learn the Italic alphabet, a versatile 15th-century calligraphy style. Then, we'll use a pointed pen and ink and learn a copperplate alphabet, a beautiful, elegant 18th-century script style. Finally, we will learn modern calligraphy techniques and flourishes. Beginner students will progress from learning the basic letter forms to writing sentences. This class is for both beginners and more experienced students who want to fine-tune their skills.

During this hands-on Kintsugi-inspired workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn, create, and share. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, highlighting the cracks instead of hiding them–embracing imperfections as part of the object’s history. This philosophy can also serve as a powerful metaphor for personal growth and healing.

Students will learn about this historic art form and how it can apply to each person. They will be guided through a modern approach, wherein they break, paint, and rebuild their own bowl, showing and creating a connection to their journey. Participants will paint their bowls and then highlight the cracks with gold glue making it unique to them. Attendees will also have the opportunity to share collectively or in small groups, conversing about how we have all been challenged in various ways, and how there is strength in the growth of the rebuild. As an art therapist, Tara offers opportunities for connection through art, relating it to self and the healing process of putting our own pieces back together.

Explore your talents with acrylic paint. In each class, students will transform a blank canvas into a finished masterpiece. With step-by-step instructions, you will be guided to create your one-of-a-kind work. Students will learn and use techniques such as blending, layering, splattering, and dry brushing to add texture and detail to their work. The subjects will be different from the previous session. All levels are welcome, and no experience is required.

Fall includes the exciting month of October, known in the Botanical Art World as “INKTOBER.” For this fun and unscary class, students will use different inking tools: Quill Dip Pens, Fine Liners, and BallPoint Pens, to explore mark making and the individual expressions that each offers to their drawings. Vegetable inks, as well as colored inks, will also be explored. We will create small 3” x 3” portraits on quality fine paper and mount nine studies in a pleasing collage on a beautiful black background of thick card stock. All supplies are provided in this class, and all skill levels are welcome.

Experienced or lapsed knitters are welcome, as well as those who have completed a beginner class. Bring a project you'd like to start or one that's been sitting in the closet for years, as well as pesky problems and... let's knit! No group projects, no plan, just enjoy the simple act of knitting.

Discover the joy of needlepoint in this introductory workshop where you will learn foundational stitches while creating a vibrant canvas. Perfect for beginners or needlepointers who want to learn stitches beyond the tent stitch. This class combines creativity, color, and technique, giving you a small but satisfying project to showcase your new skills.

In this class you will create a functional splint woven plain weave wall basket out of natural reed with a wooden handle. This basket form has existed for hundreds of years and would have been used for storage of smaller items. In modern homes it is a great container for magazines, mail, file folders and other materials. You'll learn lots of beginning basketry skills including weaving a plain weave rectangular base and sides, attaching optional handles and lashing a rim.

Crocheters with prior experience or who have completed a beginner class, are welcome to join this fun, intermediate crochet workshop. Participants should bring their own projects and a desire to expand their crochet proficiency and experience, and to relax and exchange knowledge. Develop a personal sketchbooking practice focused on capturing moments in time. Explore pencil, pen, and ink, watercolor, and mixed media through guided exercises that strengthen observation, creativity, and personal expression. Open to all levels.

Capture the vibrant colors and shapes of nature through the magical process of ecoprinting. Ecoprinting is the direct transfer of plant pigments to a surface through the use of heat. Over the course of two weeks, we’ll create dynamic designs on cotton, silk, and paper, using flowers saved from the summer and leaves collected during the fall. Nature is so abundant!

The class will cover the very basic chemistry of plant pigments, preparation, and care of naturally dyed fibers, and considerations of sustainable art-making.

Week One: You'll plan your design and arrange your botanicals on fabric, which the instructor will then steam between sessions to set the prints.

Week Two: Unwrap your results, experiment with pH modifiers to shift and deepen colors, and explore additional transfer techniques, such as flower pounding.

Cotton and silk squares (the size of bandannas) and paper will be provided in class. If you would like to upcycle a white or light-colored cotton or linen item, such as a T-shirt or socks, please bring it on the first day.

Mizuhiki is a traditional Japanese decorative cord made by hardening tightly twisted washi (traditional Japanese paper) with water-based glue and wrapping it with a variety of materials such as metallic threads and decorative films. For centuries, mizuhiki has been tied into decorative knots for gift wrapping, symbolizing gratitude, celebration, and heartfelt wishes for the recipient. Rich in color and meaning, mizuhiki has long been used to mark special occasions and remains an important part of Japanese culture. Today, its beauty and versatility extend beyond traditional gift decoration to jewelry, home décor, and contemporary art. This beginner-friendly class introduces fundamental mizuhiki knotting techniques while exploring their creative possibilities. Participants will learn traditional knotting methods and create a unique handmade piece by selecting their favorite colors. All materials and jewelry findings will be provided.

• Week 1: Learn two fundamental mizuhiki knots and use one of them to create either a pair of earrings or a pendant.
• Week 2: Explore creative variations of the basic knot by making either a Heart Knot or Cat Knot design to create a pair of earrings or a keychain.

Shake things up in this fun and beginner-friendly workshop. Create a realistic cocktail-inspired soy candle complete with colorful wax garnishes and "ice cube" embeds, all poured into a stylish tempered-glass cocktail cup. You'll learn the basics of candle making while crafting a unique piece that's almost too pretty to burn—and you'll take your finished candle home the same day.

Create an attractive rectangular basket with a handle using natural and dyed reed in your choice of colors. The finished basket will measure 6 in. wide x 12 in. long x 10 in. high. It can be a great addition to your home, holding anything from mail to keys to potted plants.

Students may choose between a menorah-inspired design or a stylized tree motif that works for Christmas or winter decorating. Learn piecing and quilting techniques while creating a project you'll enjoy for years to come. This four-week sewing machine class welcomes all skill levels. Beginners are encouraged to join and will learn sewing machine fundamentals during the first class. All supplies included.

Similar to the original Acrylics on Canvas class, students will receive step-by-step instructions that will result in a finished painting for beginners and more seasoned artists alike. However, in this class, students will focus on completing a single subject over the course of four classes in order to practice skills such as sketching, proportions, washing, color values, light source, and composition.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme, dried Lavender, Wintergreen berries, and Mint are fragrant and beautiful, waiting to be drawn across the pages of your horizontal journals in delightful compositions such as wreaths, garlands, and tree ornaments or in simple, organized studies. Join us for a festive five weeks of study, drawing, and dry brush painting as we create lasting memories using the provided herbs of the season. This is a perfect basket for holding party napkins or giving as a gift when attending a party or holiday event. Woven on a plain base, this basket weaves up quickly and introduces weavers to weaving straight sides, adding a few rows of twining, lashing a rim, and adding optional holiday embellishments. The basket measures 6 inches x 6 inches in size and 3.5 inches high.

Explore the growing practice of embroidery on paper by transforming classic postcards into textured, dimensional pieces. In this class, students will work on heavy paper rather than traditional fabric, creating multiple designs in a range of themes and color palettes. You will learn how to properly pierce, stitch, and finish paper without tearing it, and how to adapt familiar embroidery techniques to a nontraditional surface. By the final session, you will have a collection of finished postcards and the skills to continue working confidently with embroidered paper.

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting small, stuffed yarn creatures. They can be cuddly animals, favorite characters, monsters, fantasy creatures… whatever your imagination desires!

Designed for crocheters with basic experience, this introductory amigurumi class will teach the essential techniques used to create adorable stuffed yarn creatures. Participants can choose from a selection of charming animal patterns. Get guided step-by-step instructions to create your chosen project, with ample support, tips, and guidance throughout the class to ensure a fun and successful experience. At the end of class, you’ll leave with an adorable, squishy amigurumi of your own and the skills to make many more.

To enjoy this class, students should know how to make a single crochet and have a basic understanding of how to read a pattern.  You will learn essential amigurumi skills, such as the magic ring, invisible decrease, closing off, the bobble stitch, adding eyes and accessory parts, and how to make sure your stuffing doesn’t show through.

All supplies are included in your class fee.

Take a handful of beads and a teardrop component, and create a gorgeous pair of earrings, complete with an inside dangle if you choose. No special tools needed for this project, so you'll be able to make more pairs at home once you've learned the technique. This class is for all levels.

Join Monique Ford to explore this creative process and discover new ways to transform your photographs into unique works of art.

Through the process of photo transfer—lifting ink from a printed image and bonding it to a new surface—you'll learn how to combine photography with fine art techniques to create images that are rich in texture, character, and personal meaning. Photo transfers can give images an organic, weathered appearance, soften harsh paper edges, and allow photographs to be applied to other surfaces such as canvas. Whether you're looking to expand your artistic practice or find new ways to preserve and reinterpret cherished memories, this workshop series will open up exciting creative possibilities. No experience necessary. Please note: Students should bring black and white or color images with a good sense of contrast to them, printed on regular printer paper with either a laser printer or inkjet printer. Copies of photographs can also be made at the school prior to the class.

Discover the mesmerizing art of fluid acrylic pouring using the swipe technique. Layers of fluid paint are poured onto a surface, then gently dragged with a palette knife, plastic sheet, or damp paper towel to create intricate lacing, colorful cells, and flowing abstract patterns. Popular for its organic, ocean-inspired effects, each unique painting is influenced by paint consistency, color choices, and pouring mediums.

During this hands-on Kintsugi-inspired workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn, create, and share. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, highlighting the cracks instead of hiding them–embracing imperfections as part of the object’s history. This philosophy can also serve as a powerful metaphor for personal growth and healing.

Students will learn about this historic art form and how it can apply to each person. They will be guided through a modern approach, wherein they break, paint, and rebuild their own bowl, showing and creating a connection to their journey. Participants will paint their bowls and then highlight the cracks with gold glue making it unique to them. Attendees will also have the opportunity to share collectively or in small groups, conversing about how we have all been challenged in various ways, and how there is strength in the growth of the rebuild. As an art therapist, Tara offers opportunities for connection through art, relating it to self and the healing process of putting our own pieces back together.
