Social, cultural, political, biological, and ecological forces converge in our bodies and inform our physical experiences. This convergence is a rich source of poetic language. Often referred to as somatic poetry, the language of physical sensation attempts to translate and make visible what our bodies tell us. In this workshop we will analyze the work of poets such as Sylvia Plath and Gwendolyn Brooks. We will also engage in writing exercises. You will complete this workshop with the beginnings of at least one poem, and perhaps several!
