In this class participants will discuss the trio of plays written by John Steinbeck and produced on the Broadway stage with varying degrees of success: Of Mice and Men (1937), The Moon is Down (1942), and Burning Bright (1950). Both Of Mice and Men and The Moon is Down were also released as short novels, while Burning Bright was published solely as “a play in story form.” Please come to the first session having read Of Mice and Men and The Moon is Down, and all three works by the second session. We will pay special attention to the major themes and motifs associated with John Steinbeck’s writing, and how they are presented in these three works.
