Have you ever wondered what happens when passersby find stranded marine mammals on the beaches of California? In this class, Cecilia Sauter presents the magnificent work done by a staff of volunteers who work at the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, California, 24 hours a day, 365 days each year. Join us as we observe what is involved in rescuing an 800-pound elephant seal that is too sick to survive independently. How do you place a feeding tube into a baby harbor seal, and then feed him herring with heavy whipping cream? How do you teach an elephant seal pup to eat fish? Cecilia will share with us many stories of this rewarding work in helping sick and injured marine mammals regain the strength and health required to release them back into the wild, or place them with a zoological sanctuary.
