TATN returns after a Spring Term hiatus with a somewhat different emphasis. Veteran journalist and communicator Al Chambers concluded that it was not the right time to retire with so much global and domestic controversy, including challenges to democratic principles around the world. The focus will still be on what is news and important, but also on how traditional and newer media provide coverage while struggling for trust and also to survive financially. Crucial situations will be discussed in the first class and revisited two months later. The “Endless Election” must be included but not allowed to dominate. The paradoxes between America’s continuing great strengths and historical weaknesses and violence cannot be ignored. Chambers requests that all registrants e-mail to cmaactivity@gmail.com, identifying two topics or issues that she/he would most like included. Al Chambers continues to focus on the power and speed of news, media and technology in this rapidly changing world.
