Protecting America’s Underwater Treasures:
A Survey of Michigan’s Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and Underwater Preserve
Join us as Stephanie Gandulla leads us in an exploration of some of the nation’s best-preserved shipwrecks in the Great Lakes. She will describe how the Sanctuary was designated and became part of the Michigan History Center’s statewide system of museums and historic sites. Stepanie will also share details about the upcoming Thunder Bay International Film Festival, a celebration of our ocean and Great Lakes. Stephanie Gandulla is a maritime archaeologist and the Resource Protection Coordinator for NOAA's Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary, based in Alpena, Michigan. Working to protect the Great Lakes and its rich history through research, education, and outreach, Stephanie has led and participated in archaeological expeditions, on-water educational programs, and innovative interpretive initiatives.
