Eudora Welty: Thirteen Stories

IN-PERSON: The Elderwise classroom at the Vineyard Church

Written between 1937 and 1951, and collected and published for the first time in one book in 1965, Thirteen Stories represents some of the best short stories written by an American master of the genre, Mississippian Eudora Welty (1909-2001). Our two class sessions will include plentiful discussion of the author’s life and times, and of her stories. In the first session we will view a film adaptation of “A Worn Path,” and in the second session we will listen to Welty reading either “Why I Live at the P.O.” or “Powerhouse.” Kevin Eyster is Professor Emeritus at Madonna University, where he continues to teach courses in literature.
