IN-PERSON: The Elderwise classroom at the Vineyard Church
Studies have shown that meditation can have a positive impact on heart rate, blood pressure, stress, and mood. While these are important at any age, they are especially vital to our well-being as seniors. Meditating for even a few minutes a day can help increase our sense of calmness, comfort, and equanimity. There are many ways to meditate, and class members will have an opportunity to try several of them. Layla will also share some of the history and philosophy behind the practice of meditation. Layla Ananda has a B.A. degree in contemporary musicology from Michigan State University, and an M.A. in clinical psychology from the Michigan School of Psychology. Layla is retired from a career that spanned the fields of music, psychotherapy, management, and teaching, most recently at Washtenaw Community College. She continues to offer consulting and workshops through Deep Peace Consulting, and sings with the Threshold Singers of Ann Arbor and Our Own Thing Chorale.
