OFFSITE TOUR: The Spelman Art Collection, University of Michigan Museum of Art

Join a staff member of the University of Michigan Museum of Art for a guided tour that ties together threads from multiple exhibitions. Silver Linings: Celebrating the Spelman Art Collection, a traveling collection from the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in Atlanta, Georgia, uplifts the legacy of artists of African descent. It looks at artists from the 20th century through the contemporary moment who were overlooked by mainstream art museums. Works will be chosen from other exhibitions that relate to themes in Silver Linings. The tour will begin in the UMMA lobby next to the Shop. Tour route and restrooms are both accessible by elevator. Grace VanderVliet is the Curator for Teaching and Learning at UMMA. A former high school English teacher and art history instructor at Michigan State University, Grace has designed museum experiences for more than 6,000 visitors per year. Driving directions and parking instructions will be emailed to class registrants a few days before the tour.
