IN-PERSON: The Elderwise classroom at the Vineyard Church
In 1998, the FBI received information that an Ann Arbor area waste disposal company was defrauding clients by not doing contracted work, and overcharging. One client was the University of Michigan. There were also rumors that the company was creating spills of hazardous liquids, then charging clients to clean up the spills. Greg Stejskal will take us through the investigation from the beginning, and how it culminated in the first RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) prosecution and conviction of an environmental case in the United States. Greg Stejskal is a retired special agent of the FBI, having served from 1975-2006. He has also written a book, FBI Case Files Michigan – Tales of a G-Man, chronicling some of the cases in which he was involved during his career, including the Unabomber and the Michigan Militia.
