In this class students will learn how to create glass beads using Lampworking techniques. Lampworking is an ancient glassblowing process and involves melting rods of colored glass in the flame of a bench torch. The glass is then wound around a stainless steel mandrel to create beads that can be used in jewelry making. Students will learn the fundamental principles used in this process. We will explore different bead shapes and students will learn how to create designs and embellish their beads with thin threads of glass to create dots, lines, pinwheels and feathers. Workshop safety and how to properly use and care for the tools and equipment will also be discussed in this class. This class is for beginning students and no experience is required.
