  • Animating Art with Microbits

    We will spend the first day creating unique artwork, then we will animate the art using robotics skills to bring it to life. Using Microsoft Microbits and Hummingbird robotics kits, we will use coding and circuitry to make parts of our artwork swing, rock, light up, or spin. Students will learn to use LEDs, servos, and sensors in their 3-D artwork. Students will create a video to remember this experience.

    Participants will receive guidance to create projects they choose from the following options: Full Dress, Corset Belt, Tunic, Hooded Cape or Money Pouch. Students will provide their own fabric; instructor will provide a list of materials with the quantity of fabric needed for each project in advance. Bring personal machine or contact instructor for a machine to be provided. All skill levels welcome!

    Elko in-person camp for ages 12 and up. (Ages 8 - 11 may enroll with an enrolled parent or guardian over 18).

    Day 2: Unleash your creativity with 3D design and printing, bringing your imagination to life.

    Day 3: Discover the power of AI and machine learning, learning to use these tools responsibly while expanding your knowledge. Cap off the experience by composing an AI-generated song to share with your family.

    Solving the Robot Mystery is an engaging, hands-on robotics camp that challenges young leaners to become "detectives" through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). As detectives, students will be introduced to the basics of robotics and engineering concepts. Learners will think like detectives and use logic and reasoning to solve mysteries as they work through different challenges and obstacles.

    The RoboExplorers in Space is a hands-on, interactive robotics camp designed for young learners to explore the exciting world of space exploration through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Explorers will engage in the engineering and design process as well as learn how to program VEX 123 robots. Activities will be inspired by space missions and the exploration of planets.

    Ages 8-17: StarLIGHT will be running these mock auditions. Come participate in a mock audition that will mimic real audition settings. Perform your prepared song and/or monologue, and receive personalized feedback to set you up for success on the big audition day. We will start the session with tips to help navigate anxieties, and how to present yourself confidently to help you stand out. We'll help you learn ways to project with helpful warm-ups.

    Auditions may go until 4pm, depending on the size of the class.

    Ages 5-8: StarLIGHT is running a camp designed for beginners, those who are new to the performing arts world or are less comfortable on stage and being in front of people. This workshop will help campers develop core skills in the performing arts through engaging activities like games, crafts, and creative play. They will have the opportunity to strengthen skills in singing, acting/stage presence, movement, and dancing. They will gain confidence in working with others and performing. There will be a performance at the end of the week.

    Ages 9-17: StarLIGHT is running a camp designed for campers with some experience on stage, those who are more comfortable on stage and being in front of people. This camp is designed to improve attendees acting and stage performance skills with workshop topics in improv, stage movement, choreography, and vocal techniques for acting and singing. Campers will also expand their knowledge of what happens backstage as well as get a chance to learn about some of the "greats" in the history of theater. The camp will end with a performance on Friday night.
