  • Gnome Making Workshop

    Join us for a two session workshop to create a garden gnome. During the first session, participants will learn clay hand building basics while creating a unique garden gnome. During the second session, participants will paint their creations. Each participants can expect to take home one garden gnome, no larger than 16 inches tall. This is a beginner-friendly course, and no experience is necessary.

    Bring your sewing projects and enjoy dedicated creative time in a supportive, instructor-guided environment! Work on your own machine or borrow one of ours. Participants provide their own fabric, thread, and notions—everything else is supplied. It’s the perfect opportunity to finally finish those “UFOs” (un-finished-objects) with the encouragement, expertise, and camaraderie of fellow makers cheering you on!

    In this course students will learn the basics of watercolor painting. We will cover setting up your station, wet on wet, wet on dry, dry on dry and dry on wet techniques. We will go over the S-curve and other strokes. We will practice a variety of washes and texturing. Students will create analogous and complimentary color paintings. We will discuss painting presentation. Students will create a final painting using a variety of methods. List of needed supplies: Beginning Watercolor Materials List.

    The first day we will discuss quickly how best to approach outdoor work. Afterward the instructor will do a longer demonstration painting and discuss the issues of creating a painting from nature, mixing colors, composition, brush choices, and how to select a view most likely to lend itself to a successful painting.

    Upon registration, you will be provided with a suggested materials list.

  • Lampworking Fundamentals: Bead Shapes & Decorative Stringer Techniques

    Practice the art of lampworking! In this hands-on weekend workshop, students will melt colorful glass rods in a torch flame and shape them around a mandrel to create beautiful handmade glass beads. Workshop will cover essential techniques, explore a variety of bead shapes, and explore creative details using stringers to create dots, lines, pinwheels, feathers, and floral patterns. Safety practices and care for tools and equipment will be discussed. Perfect for all levels from beginners to experienced makers—all are welcome!

    Elko in-person class for ages 14 and up. Ages 14 - 17 must attend class with a parent/guardian.

    There will be a break for lunch.
 

  • Flower Press Workshop

    Join us for a one session workshop pressing fresh flowers, grasses, and shrubs into clay slabs to make ornaments, small plates and dishes. Learn about the native plants you are using or feel free to bring your own plants to press! This course is led by a local plant expert. Each participant can expect to take home up to 6-10 small pieces or 4-8 medium-sized pieces. This is a beginner-friendly course, and no experience is necessary.

    Elko in-person class for ages 14 and older. Ages 14-17 must enroll with a parent or guardian.
