  • Animating Art with Microbits

    We will spend the first day creating unique artwork, then we will animate the art using robotics skills to bring it to life. Using Microsoft Microbits and Hummingbird robotics kits, we will use coding and circuitry to make parts of our artwork swing, rock, light up, or spin. Students will learn to use LEDs, servos, and sensors in their 3-D artwork. Students will create a video to remember this experience.

    This is an 12X24 painting. Learn the painting techniques used by Bob Ross. This is done using wet on wet oil, with various brushes, brush strokes, and a palette knife to create a beautiful painting like Bob Ross. All supplies needed to complete your painting are included. Students will provide their own fabric; instructor will provide a list of materials with the quantity of fabric needed for each project in advance. Bring personal machine or contact instructor for a machine to be provided. All skill levels welcome!

  • Lampwork Glass Bird Beads

    In this class students will learn to create fun and whimsical bird beads using lampworking techniques. Lampworking is an age old process of heating and manipulating glass rods using the flame of a bench torch. Using these glass rods, tweezers, graphite paddles and many other tools, students will create hummingbirds, swans, flamingos and penguin beads. We will also learn to use frit or crushed glass to create cute little frit birds that can be used in jewelry making. Come learn with us as we watch these little birds fly free from the glass.

    Elko in-person class for ages 14 and up.

    Ages 14 - 17 must attend class with a parent/guardian.

  • Jewelry Fabrication Techniques: Peekaboo Pearl Earrings

    Join instructor Mica Johnson in making peekaboo pearl earrings. Learn how to pattern metal with a rolling mill and hammer, cut out your desired shape with a jewelers saw, learn how to wire wrap and dangle a pearl or bead in the negative space in the metal. You will learn how to make your own ear-wires in a couple of different styles. The class fee will allow you to make at least 2 pairs of earrings. More materials will be available for purchase during the class.

  • Jewelry Fabrication Techniques: Tiny Embellished Plant Presses

    Join instructor Mica Johnson in making tiny embellished plant presses. We will be fashioning these small presses entirely by hand out of brass and copper, soldering hydraulic formed shot plate embellishments along with small cabochons and gems that have been bezel set by you. These tiny plant presses will be small enough to be worn as a pendant or a brooch and we will explore those hanging options in class. This class is an advanced class.

Participants will have a choice to create multiple 1850's style outerwear projects including: Skirt, Blouse, Basic Dress, Apron, Bonnet, Trousers, Shirt, Trapper Outfit. Students will provide their own fabric; instructor will provide a list of materials and quantity of fabric needed for each project in advance. Bring personal machine or contact instructor for a machine to be provided.

    Elko in-person workshop for ages 12 and up (under 12 may enroll with an enrolled guardian over 18).

    Participants will learn how to use EVA foam to create a lightweight a piece of amor and a weapon that can be used for medieval and cosplay costumes. Each student will be provided with enough EVA Foam to create 2 items: 1 average size sword or weapon and 1 chest plate or shoulder armor. Enrolled students will receive FREE entry in the The Robin Hood Renaissance Faire costume contest.

    Elko in-person class for ages 12 and up (participants ages 9-11 may enroll with an enrolled parent or guardian).
