    The first day we will discuss quickly how best to approach outdoor work. Afterward the instructor will do a longer demonstration painting and discuss the issues of creating a painting from nature, mixing colors, composition, brush choices, and how to select a view most likely to lend itself to a successful painting.

    Upon registration, you will be provided with a suggested materials list.

  • Lampworking Fundamentals: Bead Shapes & Decorative Stringer Techniques

    Practice the art of lampworking! In this hands-on weekend workshop, students will melt colorful glass rods in a torch flame and shape them around a mandrel to create beautiful handmade glass beads. Workshop will cover essential techniques, explore a variety of bead shapes, and explore creative details using stringers to create dots, lines, pinwheels, feathers, and floral patterns. Safety practices and care for tools and equipment will be discussed. Perfect for all levels from beginners to experienced makers—all are welcome!

    Elko in-person class for ages 14 and up. Ages 14 - 17 must attend class with a parent/guardian.

    There will be a break for lunch.

    Join us for a one session workshop pressing fresh flowers, grasses, and shrubs into clay slabs to make ornaments, small plates and dishes. Learn about the native plants you are using or feel free to bring your own plants to press! This course is led by a local plant expert. Each participant can expect to take home up to 6-10 small pieces or 4-8 medium-sized pieces. This is a beginner-friendly course, and no experience is necessary.

    Students will learn how to handle glass safely, cut glass, and style their own floral themed plate using glass stringers and millefiori. This course is very beginner friendly, and no prior glass working knowledge is needed. Each student will be provided with a clear base, sheet glass, murine, stringers, and other accessory glass items to create their own unique works of art. The instructor will kiln-fire each piece after the class. Pieces will be available for pickup at the GBC-Ely Campus.

    Bring your fabric fantasy visions to life and create costumes inspired by anything from Renaissance Faire elegance to bold cosplay characters. With guided instruction, choose your projects: full dress, corset belt, tunic, hooded cape, or tabard. Participants provide their own fabric; a materials list with required yardage will be shared in advance. Bring a personal sewing machine, or contact the instructor to use one of ours. Basic sewing skills welcome—come craft and learn!

    Elko in-person camp for ages 14 and up. (Ages 8-13 may enroll with an enrolled parent or guardian over 18.)

    Participants will learn how to use EVA foam to create a lightweight a piece of amor and a weapon that can be used for medieval and cosplay costumes. Each student will be provided with enough EVA Foam to create two items: one average size sword or weapon, and one chest plate or shoulder armor.

    Elko in-person class for ages 14 and up. (Participants ages 9-13 may enroll with an enrolled parent or guardian).

    Schedule: Friday, noon-4pm, and Saturday, 10am-2pm.
