Art and Design   

Students will create a one-of-a-kind art journal using cereal boxes, ephemera, fabric, paper scraps, and other collected materials. After assembling the journal, students will decorate the covers and pages with paint, collage, and mixed-media techniques. This hands-on workshop encourages creativity and the imaginative reuse of everyday objects to create a personalized keepsake journal.

Ages 16 and older.

Use up your scrap metal! Turn it into beautiful broom cast, the technique of pouring molten metal poured over wet straw. After learning this fun technique, the results will be used as jewelry embellishments. We will also use common tools found at yard sales to make metal stamps.

Participants will learn how to use EVA foam to create a lightweight a piece of amor and a weapon that can be used for medieval and cosplay costumes. Each student will be provided with enough EVA Foam to create two items: one average size sword or weapon, and one chest plate or shoulder armor.

Elko in-person class for ages 14 and up. (Participants ages 9-13 may enroll with an enrolled parent or guardian).

Schedule: Friday, noon-4pm, and Saturday, 10am-2pm.

In this course students will learn the basics of watercolor painting. We will cover setting up your station, wet on wet, wet on dry, dry on dry and dry on wet techniques. We will go over the S-curve and other strokes. We will practice a variety of washes and texturing. Students will create analogous and complimentary color paintings. We will discuss painting presentation. Students will create a final painting using a variety of methods. A list of needed supplies will be emailed to enrolled students.

Elko in-person class for ages 18 and up.

The boxes will be constructed from copper using pancake dies. The metal can then be embellished by using either cold connections or by soldering cabochons prior to bending to shape. Students can choose from triangular or hexagonal box shapes.
