About the Course

This foundational course guides current and aspiring entrepreneurs through the thinking, analysis, and preparation required to launch and grow a sustainable business. Rather than rushing to execution, you’ll learn to break ideas into key components, identify assumptions, understand risk and uncertainty, and iterate with evidence.

- Legal & Compliance: Entity selection, permits, and licenses
- Financial Basics: Pricing models, cost structures, and simple assessments
- Integrated Strategy: Marketing, operations, and financial alignment
- Tools: Apply the Business Model Canvas to refine your idea

AI for Smarter Planning: Use AI responsibly as a support tool for research, analysis, documentation, testing assumptions, and organizing information—augmenting judgment, not replacing it.

Format/Details/Expectations

- Duration: 4 weeks
- Delivery: Online
- Cost: No cost (funded by a generous donation)
- Seats: Limited to 20 students
- Homework: Students can expect between 1-2 hours of homework per class
- Credit/PLA: ***Optional*** Students can request 1-2 college credits in BUSN 140 or BUSN 167 via Highline’s Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process after successful completion (cost $40 for PLA)
