Behavioral research indicates “violence is a process and not an event.” It leads us to examine the process, which starts with the escalation of individual behavior and leads to the overall acting out phase that in many cases ends in a conflict between police and citizens. This course will provide insight into the impact of implicit and explicit bias on behavior and the necessary skills for secondary officer intervention.
The Prevention Intervention Enforcement Recovery (P.I.E.R.) De-Escalation Model is a behavior prevention and intervention process that provides a pathway for you to successfully de-escalate the acting out behavior of citizens you may encounter. We will explain how the P.I.E.R De-Escalation Model will allow you to identify the two ways humans act out and provide you with the necessary skills to successfully de-escalate acting out behavior.
