Upon gaining Independence from Britain in 1947, India eagerly embraced scientific, social, and technological advances from the west. Now, most of the population has cell phones and television sets while millions of cars, scooters, and trucks choke the streets and highways. One aspect of Indian society that has stubbornly kept its place is the caste system. Many Indians deny it, but it is alive, cruel, and insidious. The caste system has robbed India of generations of bright creative talent. We will explore this centuries-old practice that continues not only in India, but has traveled to USA business and universities.
