Field Trip Cancellations and Refund Policy
If we have to cancel a field trip you will receive a full refund. If you cancel a field trip it must be canceled at least 2 weeks prior to the field trip to receive a refund. Overnight field trips require a 30-day cancellation notice unless noted otherwise. 

OLLI Field Trips (Bus Loading Locations)
If Using the Bus on an OLLI Day Field Trip, you will load the bus at the bus stop next to the Dietrich Theater on the Rocklin Campus.

OLLI Overnight Field Trip Goers, will park on the 3rd floor of the parking garage, on the Rocklin Campus, and walk down to the waiting bus.

*Please Note: We will email field trip participants about a week before their trip is scheduled to happen, with waivers for signing and more details specific to your field trip. This email will include a campus map to direct you to the correct bus pick-up location. 

  • Inside the Cannabis Industry (Field Trip) - Using Bus

    Understanding the business of marijuana is the topic of this field trip led by OLLI Instructor Terry McAteer. Nevada County produces a large amount of legal and illegal marijuana and in this adventure we will visit a legal dispensary and legal pot farm along with chatting with people working in this industry for a more complete understanding of this complex business model. A Sierra College bus is provided with pick-up stops in Rocklin and Grass Valley. Lunch is included. Limited to 40 (30 on bus and 10 drive yourself).

    Enjoy nature walks and talks at four sites along the American River from Fair Oaks to Folsom. Bring your Nature Journal and practice identifying each site’s unique characteristics by activating your senses: see, listen, touch, and smell., Capture your impressions in writing, drawing or photography. Features weekly writing challenges for each site. Learn different types of nature journal techniques. Multiple handouts provided as inspiration.

    The Grass Valley Museum depicts the rich history from the Gold Rush days to 1930 with displays of furniture, art, objects d’art, clothing, musical instruments and artifacts of the Victorian era. The Museum also features large Old California Style paintings, a Victorian bedroom, Lola Montez’s bathtub, a table used for the signing of the United Nations Charter in San Francisco in 1945 and many instruments and medicine from Dr. Jones the first doctor in Grass Valley. Today you can almost hear the echoes of children reciting their lessons as you stand behind the teacher’s desk in the restored classroom.

    These tours are limited to six people. There are ten steps to the second floor where the Museum is located. Tours are estimated to last 90 minutes. The Grass Valley Museum is located at 410 South Church Street, Grass Valley, two blocks from the historic downtown. Participants will provide their own transportation to and from the event. Registered members will meet instructor at location.

    We will travel by Sierra College bus or private auto (drive yourself) to the Chico area to the Trappist Catholic Order of the Abbey of Our Lady of New Clairvaux. OLLI Instructor Terry McAteer has arranged a private tour of the Abbey grounds to gain a greater understanding of the contemplative Cistercian Order of Monks and to see their incredible 12th Century Spanish Chapel purchased by William Randolph Hearst! At noon, we will join the monks for a 20-minute prayer session before enjoying a bag lunch (provided)-- you supply a drink. Following lunch, we will enjoy a five-wine fleet tasting of their award winning wines. The New Clairvaux Winery was named Winery of the Year at the California State Fair. You may purchase what you enjoyed at the winery. Limited to 35 on bus and 35 in private autos.

    For those catching the bus, we will meet behind Dietrich Theater, which is on Campus Drive, and leave promptly at 8:30am.
