Field Trip Cancellations and Refund Policy
If we have to cancel a field trip you will receive a full refund. If you cancel a field trip it must be canceled at least 2 weeks prior to the field trip to receive a refund. Overnight field trips require a 30-day cancellation notice unless noted otherwise.

If Using the Bus on an OLLI Day Field Trip, you will load the bus at the bus stop in front of Dietrich Theater on the Rocklin Campus.

Nevada County produces a large amount of legal and illegal marijuana and in this adventure we will visit a legal dispensary and legal pot farm along with chatting with people working in this industry for a more complete understanding of this complex business model. A Sierra College bus is provided with pick-up stops in Rocklin and Grass Valley. Lunch is included. Limited to 40 (30 on bus and 10 drive yourself).

    Drawing on information from her blogs and book, "Mornings on Fair Oaks Bridge, Watching Wildlife at the Lower American River, " Janice leads this tour to share scenic views, preservation initiatives, and reveal little known facts of geology, history, salmon spawning, and wildlife interactions. Discover how Fair Oaks Bridge, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, became an integral part of growing the agricultural economies and community services of Orangevale, Citrus Heights and Fair Oaks.

    This popular excursion, with OLLI Instructor Terry McAteer, brings you inside the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City for an up-close look at a working jail. First, you will travel in a Sierra College bus to the Nevada County/Sierra College campus for a working lunch where we will discuss the history of the American penal system and current challenges. We will then bus to the jail for a 90-minute hands-on experience. Participants will gain incredible insights about our penal system as we visit housing pods, the intake/booking center, the medical unit and kitchen. Nevada County OLLI members can meet at the Nevada County campus at Noon. Limited to 25.

    If you love libraries and old California stuff like I do, then this is your field trip. We will have a private tour in the bowels of the California State Archives in Sacramento to view early California artifacts related to statehood and writing our state constitution. Following lunch (provided), we will walk two blocks to the beautiful California State Library to view their California History Collection and tour the building. Terry McAteer is the group leader.     Here is a unique and rare experience to witness the highest court in the state in session. We will travel by Sierra College bus to the Supreme Court Building in Sacramento to watch our seven justices hearing and debating cases in their morning session. We will follow the court session with a private lunch at the nearby Il Fornaio Restaurant to discuss the court proceedings. Terry McAteer will provide a court history and narration on the bus trip.     The Grass Valley Museum depicts the rich history from the Gold Rush days to 1930 with displays of furniture, art, objects d’art, clothing, musical instruments and artifacts of the Victorian era. The Museum also features large Old California Style paintings, a Victorian bedroom, Lola Montez’s bathtub, a table used for the signing of the United Nations Charter in San Francisco in 1945 and many instruments and medicine from Dr. Jones the first doctor in Grass Valley. Today you can almost hear the echoes of children reciting their lessons as you stand behind the teacher’s desk in the restored classroom. These tours are limited to six people. There are ten steps to the second floor where the Museum is located. Tours are estimated to last 90 minutes. The Grass Valley Museum is located at 410 South Church Street, Grass Valley, two blocks from the historic downtown. Participants will provide their own transportation to and from the event. Registered members will meet instructor at location.

    Step into history by touring Wakamatsu Farm, a cherished California historic landmark owned and managed by American River Conservancy. Nestled in Gold Hill near Placerville, Wakamatsu Farm is the site of the first Japanese Colony in America established in 1869. It is also the birthplace of the first Japanese American and resting place of Okei-san, the first Japanese immigrant and woman buried on American soil. Your 2.5-hour tour will focus on the Japanese Colony history and touch upon all occupants from ancient to modern times. Bring a bag lunch to eat while enjoying the scenery before heading back home.
    We will provide roundtrip transportation on a Sierra College bus from the Rocklin Campus. We will meet behind Dietrich Theater, which is on Campus Drive, and leave promptly at 9:00am. Price includes bus transportation and entrance fee. Wear comfortable shoes for walking.

    One of America’s finest Western painters was Albert Bierstadt whose large, romantic landscapes of Yosemite, Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon inspired Teddy Roosevelt’s conservation movement. The Haggin Art Museum in Stockton has one of the largest collection of Bierstadt’s in the country along with naturalist works by Thomas Moran and George Inness. Our day though will begin visiting the unique, surrealistic, and somewhat bizarre Cambodian Temple in Stockton with over 100 GIANT Buddhist statues depicting scenes of Buddha’s life. You’re in for an adventure! Following the temple, we will have South-East Asian food at a local restaurant then it is off to the Haggin Art Museum. Three hundred species of wildlife call this 9,100 acre preserve home. Calling all birders…Bring your binoculars! Following our winter adventure, we will dine on El Salvadoran pupusas— a unique Latino food (included in price) which will bring you back to Yuba City many times over! Following lunch, we will drive to the foot of the Sutter Buttes to discuss this geologic wonder at the site of John C. Fremont’s encampment during the 1846 Bear Flag Revolt.
