Chautauqua’s were famous forums for discussions in the 1920’s. One hundred years later, OLLI Instructor Terry McAteer is revisiting the Chautauqua history to facilitate an in-depth discussion with all participants on the topic of our changing world. During this six class session, Terry will facilitate discussions, using the collective wisdom of the group, to discuss the future. Topics will include: the changing American family, America’s changing democracy, the changing climate we will leave our grandchildren, changing from an industrial based society to a technological one; the changing world order and, finally, with our remaining years, how do we affect change. The class will sit in the round and will listen, discuss, debate and learn from each other. Join me for this unique activity. Limited to 30 students per location.

May 10 – Rebecca Inch-Partridge – Sci-Fi (YA) – Escaping the Dashia 

 

Rebecca Inch-Partridge is a speculative fiction author with two published novels. She first wrote her young adult science fiction novel, Escaping the Dashia: Book One of the Paraxous Star Cluster Trilogy, when she was fifteen. Then she set aside her dream to pursue careers that were more accepting of women. After working as an EMT, social worker, and activities director for seniors, she returned to her first love, writing. She has worked as a freelance editor, writing coach, and author manager for several years and loves it. She also enjoys teaching the “Write that Book” series for the OLLI Program. She will discuss how things have changed in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) industries and how this has affected speculative fiction. She will also explain the wide variety of genres that speculative fiction encompasses and why it is going main stream.
