Musicals have been a major part of American theater and with plenty of audiovisual support, we'll explore the Tin Pan Alley-driven comedy works of the early 20th century, the book musicals and concept musicals that followed, the arrival of European mega-productions later in the century and the present and future of this beloved genre. We'll profile the leading composers, writers, choreographers, directors, performers and the most unforgettable shows, like Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, Showboat, Guys and Dolls, Company, Hair, Cabaret, Rent, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Wicked, Hamilton and many more.

Our weekly rehearsals emphasize music appreciation and an atmosphere of mutual support. Making music builds community. We will present a concert for the public at the end of the semester. The Pops Chorale, led by Artistic/Musical Director Lorin Miller, is an auditioned choral group of about 75 singers that performs with its own orchestra. The Chorale puts on two major concert series each year, in May and in December. Membership in the chorale is by audition, which takes place twice a year and can be arranged via the Chorale website, www.thepopschorale.com. Prospective members must have the ability to both sing and dance, as each semester several professionally choreographed pieces are performed by the Chorale during each of our shows. Auditions can be arranged on the Pops Website, www.thepopschorale.com

The American Film Institute released a list of the best film scores, that includes many well-known classics and some surprises. The composers of those scores have something in common: a fascinating life and a solid career. Let's enjoy the ride through the process of creating those historical pieces that convey what the movie is trying to say without words and evoke an emotional response even the most brilliant dialogues and images cannot. Film scores that in some cases, have become more popular than the films they soundtracked. Gone With The Wind, Laura, To Kill a Mockingbird, Planet of The Apes and many other classics!! And in the last class, let's build our own list!!

Welcome to the Truckee-Tahoe Community Band. If you have the desire to play with others in an ensemble setting, and prior but not necessarily current experience, then join us on Wednesday nights for a musical adventure.
