As an editor, I am often asked by clients what to do once they finish their manuscript. I have helped several of them with submitting their packets to agents and editors as well as the prelaunch and book launch process. However, when my novels were picked up by a publisher I learned even more about the platform building, promotion and marketing. This four week class will be an overview of what I’ve learned in my decade in the field.

Our criminal justice system has been compared to a massive ocean barge: efficient, predictable, but slow to change direction. Sometimes, though, forces collide that provide courts with unique opportunities to radically alter our laws. From famous examples such as Watergate to little known cases like the prosecution of drug kingpin Nicky Barnes, we will explore the dramatic stories of how our system can be upended.

Zelensky's life to date has been packed with drama and action. By the age of 20, the Jewish boy from the provincial town of Kryvyi Rih had become a star of the stage. At 30, he headed a multimillion-dollar TV company. At 40, he took on Ukraine’s corrupt political and business elite in a TV drama where he played a history teacher who becomes President. Then he launched a real-life political party named after the TV show, won a landslide victory and became Ukraine's real President. When Russian troops flooded across the border, Zelensky refused Western offers to leave Kyiv. He has marshalled Ukraine's resistance and successfully obtained Western missile systems and anti-tank weapons. What will happen next? How does Zelensky go through enormous daily challenges and what’s motivates him? Is his political mission almost completed or he will play profound role in building post-war Ukraine? In the next two hours we will talk about Zelensky biography and try to find answers on the above questions.
*Class Dates: 10/23 (only).

On the 50th anniversary of the resignation of President Richard M. Nixon, perhaps it is time to admit that much of the nation was mistaken. As discovered in Part One, the Nixon Administration was spied upon by the Pentagon, infiltrated by CIA, and deeply disserved by its White House counsel John Dean III. Following the June 17, 1972 arrest of CIA assets for the break-in at the Democratic National Committee at the Watergate office building, President Nixon made the disastrous decision to cover up the collusion of the Committee to Re-Elect the President. That action began a two years-long odyssey that ended with his resignation. What was little known, but will be explored in this course, is how the President’s enemies conspired to remove him from office in a silent coup d’etat. Abusing the media, the judicial process, and the Bill of Rights, Nixon’s foes achieved through a scandal what they could not at the ballot box. Following the scholarship of Len Colodny, Robert Gettlin, Jim Hougan, Geoff Shepard, Ken Holland, and other researchers, we will discover what actually happened from August 1972 through August 1974.
*Class Dates: 11/6, 11/13, 11/20, & 11/27.

T’ai Chi, or the Form, is a physical exercise that promotes good health, relaxation and peace of mind. It has the advantages of regular exercise combined with a slowness of pace that western society so conspicuously lacks. The relaxed gentle movements of the T’ai Chi forms keep the body from being tense and awkward. Joseph Guida studied with and was trained by world renowned T’ai Chi Master Da Liu in the 1980’s. In the first class we will learn how to stand erect, balance on one foot and the opening movement. The second class will review the first class and move on to the second movement of the form.

The militia was a long-standing English institution transplanted to Britain's North American Colonies. Colonists were obligated to serve as soldiers in local conflicts. During the revolution, colonists took control of the militia system. Organized militias became a function of the federal and state governments. In the election of 1860 there was a mass militia movement to elect Lincoln as president and end slavery. Since 1990 there have been a growing number of unorganized militias including many groups that are anti-government.

Most of us elders have prepared a Will or Trust. It is probably stored with other important papers in a file on our computer or in a file drawer. We may have told our children where we want to be buried. But that is only the bare minimum. We need to openly talk to our family, partner, friends about how we want to die, before it is too late. Why is it so difficult to talk about our death? This will not be a deep philosophical inquiry. We will cover the basics of how to plan for our death. What we need to do now, before the grim reaper or dementia gets us.
